Abstrak
This article examines the critical role of historical education in fostering societal development and civic engagement. History is not merely a record of past events but a cognitive framework that shapes modern decision-making, national identity, and social cohesion. Through a qualitative analysis of educational paradigms, this study explores how historical literacy influences critical thinking and the preservation of cultural heritage. The research demonstrates that societies with robust historical education systems exhibit higher levels of institutional trust and democratic participation. By analyzing the intersection of historical consciousness and contemporary social challenges, the paper argues that history serves as a foundational pillar for sustainable progress. The findings suggest that curriculum reforms emphasizing analytical historical inquiry over rote memorization are essential for preparing citizens to navigate the complexities of the 21st century. The article concludes by emphasizing that the integration of historiographical methodology into general education is vital for informed citizenship and long-term societal stability.
