Language awareness is a foundational component of effective English language teaching and a critical focus area for candidates preparing for the Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). This article explores the significance of language awareness in the context of classroom practice, drawing direct connections to the TKT framework, particularly Module 1. It examines how a deep understanding of grammatical, lexical, phonological, and discourse features enhances a teacher’s ability to plan lessons, respond to learners' needs, and make informed pedagogical decisions. By analyzing real classroom scenarios and common TKT tasks, the article provides practical strategies for developing language awareness and demonstrates its impact on both teacher confidence and learner outcomes. This discussion aims to support TKT candidates in strengthening their subject knowledge and aligning their teaching practices with key principles of language education.
