THE ROLE OF DIGITAL MEDIA PLATFORMS IN ENHANCING ENGLISH-LANGUAGE COMMUNICATION SKILLS AMONG ESL LEARNERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the role of digital media platforms in enhancing English-language communication skills among ESL learners. The study analyzes how interactive and multimodal digital environments contribute to the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing competencies. Drawing on contemporary theories of second language acquisition and technology-enhanced learning, the paper explores the pedagogical potential of social networking sites, video-sharing platforms, online discussion forums, and messaging applications in promoting authentic communication and learner autonomy. The findings suggest that purposeful engagement with digital media increases exposure to comprehensible input, facilitates meaningful interaction, and strengthens communicative competence. In addition to linguistic improvement, digital platforms foster intercultural awareness, pragmatic competence, and learner confidence. However, the effectiveness of these tools depends on strategic use, digital literacy skills, and appropriate instructional guidance. The article concludes that when thoughtfully integrated into ESL pedagogy, digital media platforms serve as powerful extensions of the traditional classroom, bridging the gap between formal instruction and real-world language use.
